Unresponsive Trackpad on Windows 10

Hi, first thing I would do is separate a Windows/driver problem from a hardware/touchpad-disabled problem.

 

Try these in order:

 

1. Connect a USB mouse so you can work normally while testing.

2. Check the laptop's touchpad toggle key, often one of the `Fn` keys, and also Settings > Devices > Touchpad.

3. In Device Manager, look under Human Interface Devices and Mice and other pointing devices. Uninstall the touchpad/I2C HID device, then reboot.

4. Install the touchpad, chipset, and serial IO drivers from the laptop maker's support page, not only from Windows Update.

5. Test in the BIOS/UEFI screen if your laptop supports mouse/touchpad there.

 

If the touchpad also does not work in BIOS/UEFI, or it disappears from Device Manager completely, that points more toward hardware or a ribbon cable issue. If it works outside Windows, focus on the OEM driver package.
