The Battery Won’t Hold a Charge (or Dies Instantly)
My laptop's battery seems to be completely failing because it either won't hold a charge at all or drains very rapidly, sometimes dying instantly even when the battery indicator shows some charge...
Hi, this often comes down to battery wear, but you can confirm before replacing parts.
Open Command Prompt and run:
`powercfg /batteryreport`
Then open the report and compare Design Capacity with Full Charge Capacity. If full charge capacity is much lower, or the report shows sudden drops, the battery is likely worn out or failing. Also check whether the laptop works normally when plugged in, and whether it shuts off if you gently move the charger/charging port.
I would also update BIOS/firmware and the manufacturer's power management driver. But if the battery health report looks bad, recalibration will not really fix it. Replacement is usually the practical answer.
