Slow Response or Freezing During Use
Your Windows 10 PC freezes across unrelated applications even though Task Manager shows no sustained CPU or memory pressure, so the details do not identify one cause. Begin by restarting and installing any available Windows and device-driver updates. Run a full Microsoft Defender scan. Next, test a clean boot: open msconfig, hide all Microsoft services, disable the remaining services, disable startup apps in Task Manager, and restart. If freezing stops, re-enable items in groups until the conflicting service or app is identified, then update or remove it. If it continues, open an administrator Command Prompt and run DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth, followed by sfc /scannow. Test Safe Mode as well. Freezing that persists there warrants the PC manufacturer’s storage and hardware diagnostics; share the model and any error codes. Windows 10 support ended in October 2025, so upgrade to Windows 11 if the device is eligible.
