Repurposed Old Pc
Been self hosting some stuff for the family almost two years with this old pc, but it seems that my server never used 30% of its capabilities , i guess still can wait a while before i do a major upgrade. apart from cant play any modern games. maybe i should add a better GPU making it gaming capable? i wonder if 3050 a good choice? combining with this cpu i7 8700

Hi Creediin, if the old PC is only using a small part of its CPU and memory, it can probably keep serving the family workload for a while. For self-hosting, I would watch disk health, backup reliability, power usage, and network stability more than raw CPU percentage. An SSD, enough RAM, and a good backup plan usually matter more than a newer processor. If you start running heavier services like media transcoding, VMs, or databases, then it may be time to upgrade.
