Printing Do Not Print Correctly on an XP computer

On my older Windows XP computer, a failed Windows Update has now occurred for the second time, and since then my printer has stopped printing documents correctly. The print jobs either come out garbled with strange characters or don't print at all, and I believe the failed update may have corrupted a critical driver or system file needed for printing.
