Is there any way to permanently block the Windows 11 upgrade nags on Windows 10?
There isn’t one supported switch that guarantees every upgrade promotion disappears, but you can separate blocking the upgrade from reducing the full-screen prompts.
On Windows 10 Pro, open gpedit.msc and find Select the target Feature Update version under Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Windows Update. Depending on your policy templates, it may be under Windows Update for Business or Manage updates offered from Windows Update.
Enable it and enter:
- Product version: Windows 10
- Target version: 22H2
That policy tells Windows Update to stay on Windows 10; it doesn’t necessarily suppress every promotional screen.
For those screens, open Settings > System > Notifications & actions and turn off Suggest ways I can finish setting up my device, Show me the Windows welcome experience…, and tips/suggestions where available. Those settings can stop setup-style reminders, though not every Windows 11 campaign.
One important date correction: Windows 10’s regular support ended on October 14, 2025, and consumer ESU ended on October 13, 2026. Commercial ESU has a different schedule. You can keep using Windows 10, but blocking upgrade prompts doesn’t extend its security coverage.
