icons on desktop suddenly too big (and background img lost) but temporary

Windows 10 !

I know what to do when the icons on desktop suddenly are too large on WIndow 10 desktop computer.  Just Display Settings, change to what I want, and carry on.

Today, laptop Windows 11, suddenly heard descending two tone sound and the desktop background image was lost.  A few minutes later, screen resolution went off and showed over-sized desktop icons.  I tried a web search for the lost background; but assumed I would find display setting which I could use for putting back the right resolution.  Right-click on desktop, look and click Display Settings, but --------- the value shown was already to maximum resolution.  Makes No Sense.

Restarted computer and signed-in (local account):

Background picture is present on desktop and icon sizes look normal.

Yes, I DID do a Windows Update session and finished it, several minutes before all this stuff started.

If someone could fill-me-in on what to think , what more to look for, just in case any of it happens again.

Open Device Manager and look under Display Adapters. If there's a warning icon, your driver might need updating or reinstalling. Sometimes Windows updates can cause driver conflicts or revert to basic display drivers.
