To record myself and my screen at the same time, a simple method is to use Cap and enable both screen recording and webcam recording. This desktop app supports recording the screen and webcam separately, and 'Studio Mode' comes in handy when you want to save your recordings locally for later editing.
How to record myself and my screen at the same time
- Go to the official download page and choose the version for your computer. The desktop app is available for macOS, Windows, and Linux. On Windows, download the 64-bit installer. On macOS, choose the correct build for Apple Silicon or Intel.
- Install the application and open it. Sign in when prompted. The first time you use recording features, allow access to the camera and microphone. On macOS, you may also need to allow Screen and System Audio Recording in System Settings.
- Choose Studio if you want the recording saved locally for editing. Then select the display, application window, or screen area you want to capture.
- Turn on your camera and select the webcam you want to use. Choose your microphone as well. Make sure the camera preview appears and confirm that the microphone is receiving sound before you begin. The app can record the screen and camera separately and combine them into the final video.
- Select any supported system audio option if you also need sounds from your computer. Check the screen area, camera framing, and microphone one more time, then click Record and wait for the countdown to finish.
- Present or demonstrate what you need while keeping yourself visible through the camera. When you are finished, use the recording controls to stop the session. In Studio Mode, open the saved project to trim unwanted sections, adjust the layout, and prepare the final video for export.
The official website is the safest place to download the software, as it offers the latest desktop version as well as older versions for supported systems. In addition, we recommend performing a short test recording first to ensure that your screen, webcam, microphone, and computer audio are all being captured correctly before you begin a longer recording.
