Accessing the BIOS over an HDMI connection with a laptop that has a broken screen can be challenging because the BIOS typically defaults to the primary display output, which is the laptop's own screen. Here are some steps and tips that might help you display the BIOS settings on an external HDMI screen:
1.Try Boot Shortcut Keys:
Some laptops allow changing the primary display output via a keyboard shortcut. Common keys used during the boot process include Fn + F5, Fn + F7, or Fn + F8. Try pressing these immediately after powering on the laptop to see if the BIOS can be toggled to the HDMI output.
2. Use the Blind Key Navigation Method:
If you know the usual key presses to enter BIOS (often F2, Delete, or Esc), you can try to enter the BIOS blind, and then use a presumed shortcut key to switch the display output.
3. BIOS Update or Configuration:
If you can boot into Windows and see the desktop through HDMI, check the laptop manufacturer’s website for any BIOS update or utility tool that allows modifying BIOS settings from within Windows. Some manufacturers provide software that can update BIOS settings or at least update the BIOS itself which might resolve output issues.
4. External Graphics Card Dock (if supported):
If your laptop has a Thunderbolt or USB-C port that supports external GPUs, connecting an external GPU with its own HDMI output might switch the BIOS display output through the external GPU’s ports.
5. Consult the Laptop’s Manual:
Look up your laptop’s model manual for specific instructions on external displays and BIOS settings. There may be a note or section on how to handle display outputs for BIOS.
6. Contact Manufacturer Support:
As a last resort, contacting the manufacturer's support can provide specific guidance for your laptop model.
In cases where these options aren't feasible, waiting until the laptop screen is replaced may be necessary to access the BIOS settings directly.- XJordy96XBrass Contributorthankyou when this becomes a issue ive figured you can unplug laptop screen from the motherboard it then force displays the bios over hdmi on a laptop with a broken screen also allows windows installs on a laptop with un viewable screen (just unplug it off the motherboard
it requires opening the laptop but is easiest option
