On a Mac, if you do not want to use Preview, you can delete specific pages from a PDF with an online page-removal tool or a desktop PDF editor. A structural PDF page remover deletes the selected pages without re-rendering the remaining content, so the appearance, page dimensions, and formatting normally remain unchanged.

macOS does not provide another built-in app with the same PDF page-management function as Preview. Printing only the pages you want to keep is possible, but that creates a new PDF instead of structurally deleting pages. This print-to-PDF workaround may remove bookmarks, links, forms, comments, accessibility information, layers, and digital signatures.

Delete PDF pages online for free with PDFgear

PDFgear provides a free online PDF page remover that works in a browser without requiring an application or account. It is convenient when you only need to remove unwanted pages from a PDF without installing an application.

  1. Open PDFgear's online Delete PDF Pages tool.
  2. Click Select PDF File and choose the document.
  3. Select the pages you want to remove, or hold Shift to select a range.
  4. Click Remove Pages.
  5. Download the updated PDF to your Mac.

The remaining pages are not intentionally recompressed, so their visible quality should remain the same. However, the document must be uploaded to Adobe’s online service, and deleting pages from a digitally signed PDF can invalidate its signatures.

Delete PDF pages offline on Mac with PDFgear

PDFgear is a free PDF editor for Mac that does not require an account or sign-in. All features in the PDFgear desktop app run locally and can be used offline, so the PDF does not need to be uploaded to a server.

  1. Open the PDF in PDFgear.

Use Adobe Acrobat Pro for professional page management

Adobe Acrobat Pro is the paid desktop option for deleting and organizing pages in complex PDFs. The free Adobe Acrobat Reader can display PDFs, but deleting pages through Organize Pages requires Acrobat Pro.

  1. Open the PDF in Adobe Acrobat Pro for Mac.
  2. Select All Tools > Organize Pages.
  3. Select the page thumbnails you want to remove.
  4. Click the trash-can icon and confirm the deletion.
  5. Save the edited PDF as a new file.

Acrobat Pro retains the appearance of the remaining pages because it removes page objects rather than printing the document again. Bookmarks or links pointing to deleted pages may no longer work, and changing a certified or digitally signed PDF can invalidate its signatures.

If the delete command is unavailable, the PDF may have security restrictions. You will need the appropriate permissions password and authorization to modify it. For a quick one-time task, use a browser-based page remover; choose a desktop PDF editor when you need more detailed page organization. Keep the original file and check bookmarks, links, forms, attachments, and digital signatures after deleting pages.
