How do I record a meeting on my computer from Windows 10?
When you need to save an online class, work discussion, or presentation for later review, recording the screen can be easier than taking notes throughout the session. For people searching for how to screen record a meeting, it helps to use a recorder that can capture both the meeting window and the audio you actually need.
OBS Studio is an open-source recording program that can capture the entire display, an individual application window, and multiple audio sources. It has quite a few settings, but a basic meeting recording does not require a complicated setup.
- First, open the program and create a new scene. Under Sources, add Window Capture if you only want the meeting application, or Display Capture if you want everything visible on the monitor. Adjust the preview so the correct area is included.
- Next, check the Audio Mixer while someone is speaking. Make sure the desktop-audio meter responds if you need to record the other participants, and enable a microphone source if your own voice should also be included. Go to Settings > Output > Recording to choose the save location, recording format, and quality before starting.
Finally, click Start Recording, return to the meeting, and leave the recorder running in the background. When the session finishes, click Stop Recording and check the saved file for both picture and sound. There is no command-line step required for a normal setup; the graphical controls are the simpler option. For anyone learning how to screen record a meeting, making a short test recording beforehand is a useful way to catch audio-source problems before the actual session begins.
