Using the built-in Disk Cleanup tool is a practical step when preparing Windows 10 PC for sale. It helps you remove unnecessary files, freeing up space and ensuring your personal data is not accessible to the new owner. However, for a thorough preparation, especially when selling your PC, you should combine Disk Cleanup with other steps like resetting Windows or deleting user accounts.
Here's how to use Disk Cleanup to prepare Windows 10 PC for sale:
1. Open Disk Cleanup:
- Press the Windows key, type Disk Cleanup, and select it from the search results.
- Alternatively, press Win + R, type cleanmgr, and press Enter.
2. Select the Drive:
- Choose the system drive (usually C:) and click OK.
3. Clean Up Files:
- Disk Cleanup will scan your drive and display a list of file categories, such as Temporary files, Recycle Bin, System error memory dump files, and more.
- To free up more space and remove system-related files, click Clean up system files.
- Again, select the drive and wait for the scan.
4. Choose Files to Delete:
- Check the boxes for the types of files you want to delete.
- For preparing Windows 10 PC for sale, selecting Previous Windows installations and Temporary files is recommended, as these can contain personal data and take up significant space.
5. Confirm and Delete Files:
- Click OK, then confirm by clicking Delete Files.
- Disk Cleanup will remove the selected files.
