Using an FTP (File Transfer Protocol) server is another effective method to backup Android phone to Mac. This approach allows you to transfer files wirelessly over your local Wi-Fi network, giving you direct control over your data without relying on cloud services or external tools.
Step-by-step guide:
1. Install an FTP server app on your Android device
- Examples include Solid Explorer, FTP Server, FileZilla Server, or WiFi FTP Server.
- Download and install one of these apps from the Google Play Store.
2. Configure the FTP server
- Open the FTP server app.
- Set a username and password for secure access.
- Start the FTP server. It will display an IP address and port (usually 21).
3. Connect from your Mac
- Open Finder.
- Press Cmd + K or go to Go > Connect to Server.
- Enter the FTP address, e.g., ftp://192.168.x.x:port.
- Enter your username and password when prompted.
- You will now see your Android device’s storage.
4. Backup Android phone to Mac
- Drag and drop files from your Android device to your Mac to create a backup.
- You can also copy files from Mac to Android if needed.
Advantages:
Wireless transfer: No need for cables.
Control over what to backup: Select specific files or folders.
Free and flexible: No additional costs or tools needed.
