File Explorer suddenly refusing to remember custom view settings

Right-click inside the folder, select Properties.
Under the Customize tab, check the Optimize this folder for dropdown.
Select General Items or Shortcuts.
Check Also apply this template to subfolders if available.
Click OK and see if the view sticks.
