Even though the Windows 10 update was successful update history shows it failed

That is normal. Windows Update history records individual installation attempts, so a successful installation does not erase earlier failures. Restarting will not remove them either.

To confirm the update is installed:

1. Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update > View update history and look for a successful entry with the same KB number.
2. Press Win + R, type winver, and compare the OS build with the build listed in Microsoft’s release notes for that update. A later cumulative update may have already replaced it.

If the update shows as successful and the build matches or corresponds to a newer cumulative update, the old failure entries do not indicate a current problem. There is no need to reinstall the update or reset Windows Update just to remove those records.
