Does SMS Backup and Restore have a PC version for viewing text messages?

Just backed up a few years of text messages from my Android phone using SMS Backup & Restore. The backup was saved as an XML file, and now I'd like to open and read those messages on my Windows 10 PC...

If you're looking for an SMS Backup and Restore for PC Windows 11, you can try SMS_MMS_Reader. It's a Windows application that lets you view XML backup files generated by SMS Backup & Restore.

How to Use SMS Backup and Restore for PC Windows 11:

Step 1: Transfer the .xml backup file from your Android phone to your computer via USB or another method.

Step 2: Open the software, then select File > Open.

Step 3: Select the SMS Backup & Restore XML file you want to read.

Step 4: The program will list the conversation threads and display the contact's name or number, the number of messages, and the dates of the first and last messages.

Step 5: Double-click a conversation thread to open it and read the individual messages.

Finally, if you have accumulated messages over many years, use the View > Filter Conversations feature to search by contact, message content, or date range.

 

What you can view:

  • SMS and MMS conversations grouped by contact
  • Contact names and phone numbers
  • Message dates and timestamps
  • Images, audio, video, and other MMS attachments
  • Large XML backup files containing messages spanning multiple years
