Display driver reverts to MS Basic Display Adapter after sleep
Windows 10, Dell Optiplex 390.
About 1/3 of the time when my computer wakes up after sleep, the display goes into fat ugly mode (VGA mode) and the AMD Radeon HD 6450 driver is no longer in charge. I have to then go into Device Manager/Display adapters and reload the AMD driver. (15.31.1901.0). Is this simply because the driver is old and nasty? (2/26/2016 and nothing newer.) Not the end of the world. Reloading the driver works, but it's a pita to do a few times/day. -Thank you
- AlmaiwIron ContributorI don't think banning the Fast Startup would help.
- TomasstesIron Contributor1.Update Graphics Drivers
Automatic Update:
Windows Update:
Right-click on the Start menu and select Settings.
Go to Update & Security > Windows Update.
Click on Check for updates and install any available updates.
Device Manager:
Right-click the Start menu and select Device Manager.
Expand "Display adapters".
Right-click on your graphics adapter (e.g., NVIDIA, AMD, Intel), select Update driver, and then choose Search automatically for updated driver software.
2.Manual Update:
Visit the manufacturer’s website (NVIDIA, AMD, or Intel) to download and install the latest drivers for your graphics hardware.
Step 2: Disable Fast Startup
Sometimes Fast Startup can cause driver issues.
Open Control Panel > Power Options > Choose what the power buttons do.
Click on Change settings that are currently unavailable.
Uncheck Turn on fast startup.
Click Save changes and restart your computer. - malfurionxtcCopper ContributorI have exact same problem... Driver reverts to basic if i leave my computer to sleep. When I turn it off completely, it boots up normally with latest AMD Radeon rx580 driver, but if i forget pc, and it goes to sleep, it reverts back to MS basic display driver adapter... No reply from support ? Did you fixed your problem ?
