Desktop icons look weird when I hover over them – how do I fix this?
Okay so most of my desktop icons look completely normal until I hover my mouse over them—then they turn into this ugly, stretched-out mess. It's not all of them, just most. And honestly? It looks terrible.
I haven't changed any settings recently, so I'm not sure what triggered it. Restarted a couple times, still the same issue.
Anyone know how to get rid of this hover effect or what's causing it?

Run a full system scan with your antivirus or use Windows Defender to ensure no malware is causing graphical glitches.
That sounds incredibly frustrating. While it's not a very common issue, desktop icons distorting or stretching when you hover over them is often related to Windows trying to render a low-resolution version of the icon.
You can try updating it from the Device Manager, or if the problem started after a recent update, you can try rolling it back to a previous version.
When you hover over an icon, Windows shows a small tooltip with file info. Sometimes that pop-up effect can make the icon look distorted or stretched.
