contacts icon cannot be hidden, even though it has been turned off in the system icon settings.
Under Settings → Personalization → Taskbar, I turned off the People toggle, but the People icon still appears on the taskbar and cannot be hidden. Restarting File Explorer did not resolve the issue.

Sometimes, toggling it off and then back on can help, then turn it off again.
Sometimes the simplest solution is the one you'd miss. Try right-clicking directly on the "People" icon on your taskbar. You might see an option to "Hide from taskbar" . This is a quick and easy fix if it's available.
