Compatibility Mode setting lost after copying exe

Hello,

Short version: If I set the compatibility mode for an exe to WIN XP (SP3) and then copy that exe to another folder (in Win 10), the compatibility mode setting of the copy gets set back to General. How can I prevent this reset ?

Long Version:

I have an install disc for a Visual Basic program I wrote years ago. It’s meant to be installed on Windows XP systems. It runs on Windows 10 under XP (SP3) compatibility mode. I recently discovered that I can set the compatibility mode of the setup.exe and my project.exe using the Properties setting on exe files. This installs properly.

If I copy the install files to another location, the compatibility mode for both of the copied exe’s is reset back to default (General). This makes it harder to make copies of these install files.

Making the copy source files read-only does not prevent the comp mode reset.

I no longer have the ability to recreate the install files with Windows 10 compatibility.

Question: Is there a way I can copy these files with Compatibility mode set to XP (SP3) without the setting being reset to General in the copied files?

Thanks.
