Can't edit PDF. How can I enable editing on a PDF from Windows 10?
If you're tired of feeling like you can't edit PDF files without paying for expensive software, Libre Office Draw is a surprisingly powerful free tool that's already waiting for you. It completely transforms how you work with PDFs, letting you change text, swap images, and even rearrange pages.
First things first—you'll need to have Libre Office installed. If you don't have it, you can grab the free suite from the official website.
- Launch Libre Office Draw: Open the app from your Start Menu. It's the vector drawing tool within the Libre Office suite .
- Open your PDF: Go to File → Open, find your PDF, and select it . Draw will import the PDF and convert it into an editable format. Each piece of text, image, and shape becomes an object you can tweak. The more complex the layout, the more manual adjustments you might need to make .
Once your PDF is open, you can treat it almost like a word processor or a basic image editor.
- Editing Text: Click on a line of text to select it—you'll see a blue highlight . Then you can start typing to replace it, or delete it entirely . You can also change fonts, sizes, and colors using the toolbar .
- Editing Images: To add an image, go to Insert → Image and choose your file . You can also right-click an existing image to replace it with another, or drag to resize and reposition it .
- Managing Pages: Draw displays each page of your PDF in the sidebar. You can right-click on a page thumbnail to delete it, or insert a new blank page .
When you're done editing, saving is slightly different from a normal document:
- Export, don't just Save: Go to File → Export As → Export as PDF .
- Choose your settings: A dialog box will pop up with options for compression, quality, and even password protection .
- Name and save: Give your new PDF a name, pick a location, and hit Save.
A pro tip: save your project as a .odg file (Libre Office Draw's format) first. This way, you can keep a completely editable version for future tweaks, and then use the Export function to create your final PDF.
You might find text boxes out of alignment or need to fix formatting issues. For simple documents, though, it works great. So even if you feel like you can't edit PDF with other free tools, this one gives you real power without any cost.
