To summarize YouTube video with AI tool. That "copy transcript + paste into an online summarizer" method totally works. It's a bit of a manual process—like the "I'll just do it myself" approach—but it's free, doesn't need any fancy software, and honestly gets the job done.
How to summarize YouTube video with AI tool:
Step 1: Grab the transcript straight from YouTube
YouTube actually has this feature built right in, though they kinda hide it . Here's where to click:
- Go to the YouTube video you want to summarize
- Click the "...more" link under the video title to expand the description box
- Scroll down until you see "Show transcript" and click it
- A little box pops up on the right side with the full transcript and timestamps
Step 2: Copy all that text
- Click the first line of the transcript
- Hold down Shift and scroll to the bottom, then click the last line
- Hit Ctrl+C (or right-click and copy)
Pro tip: If you don't want those timestamps cluttering things up, click the three dots in the transcript box and toggle them off before copying. Makes the text way cleaner.
Step 3: Paste into an online summarizer
- Open a new tab, search for "free AI text summarizer" (there are tons), paste your transcript, and let the AI do its thing. Some browser extensions like SummarizeNow do this automatically if you don't want to copy-paste every time.
