Automatic Restarts After Updates. Why?
The restarts normally complete Windows updates, but they should be scheduled so they do not interrupt active work. In Windows 10, open Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update > Change active hours and set when you usually use the PC, or enable automatic adjustment. In Advanced options, enable restart notifications, then use “Schedule the restart” when Windows shows one is pending. Save your work and restart manually at a convenient time so the update does not remain queued. If the PC is organization-managed, check its work-or-school connection and ask the administrator whether policy controls restart deadlines; local options may be overridden. Review update history to identify the update and confirm whether restarts repeat after successful installation. Repeated restarts or failed updates are not expected: record the update number and error, run the Windows Update troubleshooter, and seek targeted support rather than disabling updates or the Windows Update service.
