FreeDroid is a dedicated macOS utility that brings Android storage directly into Finder. Instead of dealing with sluggish third-party tools, it provides a seamless drag-and-drop experience. For anyone searching for a reliable Android file transfer for mac solution, this tool integrates natively so you can manage files just like an external drive.
Preparation:
Download the FreeDroid-0.1.0.dmg file from the official GitHub Releases page. Open it and drag FreeDroid into your Applications folder.
How to Use Android file transfer for mac:
- Open FreeDroid from your Applications folder and approve the File Provider extension if prompted.
- Connect your Android phone to your Mac using a USB cable and enable USB debugging on the phone.
- Accept the authorization fingerprint on your Android device when prompted.
- Open Finder and look under "Locations" for your connected phone. Browse its files, then drag photos, videos, or other files between the phone and your Mac.
FreeDroid integrates directly with Finder, so you can manage your files without relying on the discontinued standalone app. It also supports file previews, multiple devices, and wireless ADB pairing.
Drawbacks:
- The project documentation lists macOS 15.4 or newer, but compatibility with future macOS versions is not confirmed.
- USB debugging and device authorization are required for the ADB workflow.
- While it is a community-developed project, it is not an official Google application.
