Trouble joining an external Viva Engage network

I have a user who is having trouble joining an external Viva Engage network. I have not blocked external networks, but I have activated the function which means that one of our administrators must first approve a request from the user to join.

The problem

  1. A User wants to join an External Network  (in this case www.yammer.com/dynamicsnavdev).
  2. He goes to the url www.yammer.com/dynamicsnavdev  (He has tried different browsers and also InPrivate mode)

3. Here he enter his work email and press "Sign up".

4. He gets an error message that the email is not valid.

My theory

  1. I assume that the user (in my organization) must first request and receive an invitation to the external network from the owner/administrator of the external network and that this invitation must be sent to this user's work email address.
  2. After the user in my organization receives the invitation from the owner of the external Engage-network, I assume that this invitation is shown to the user in Viva Engage and that the user from there must send a request to me (as an administrator) and that I will then see this request in Engage Admin Center and be able to approve/decline the request from there?

Any ideas of what can be wrong/missing?

our tenant = they have finally migrated the web url from yammer to engage
you may have it hard-coded and need to update to engage.cloud.microsoft
      just guessing here.

We are having similar issue with external users who access our SharePoint site / Viva Engage. The external users are added into Azure/Entra with B2B and we had no issues - we have a join process where they submit their email, a PowerAutomate flow checks that they are a B2B user in Entra, then adds them to the Group. We have challenges with users logged in with gmail using a one-time passcode. Until recently they were able to join/view the Community, but now it is returning errors, as of approximately 1st week Feb.
