Surface Pro Type Cover Shortcuts not working

I used a Surface Pro 4 with the Surface Type Cover, and was addicted to the Shortcuts like [Fn+DEL] and [Fn+BKSP] to increase and decrease screen brightness etc. 

On my recently acquired Surface Pro 6, however, these shortcuts do not seem to work. I have checked various blogs / forums to find a solution, but no resolve. 

Any help on this will be appreciated!
