Surface laptop 4 issues when using external monitor with program

We were using surface books book 2 & 3 switched to surface laptops 4. We have the same dock station and 2 external monitors that we used with the surface books but replaced those with surface laptops. Our issue is that one of our programs will only allow you to type on the surface laptop. If you move the program to the external monitors you have to minimize the screen each time you type to get what you typed to show up. We did not have this issue with the surface books. From what i see on the hardware side they both use the iris graphics. I have tried changing the display size, refresh rate but have not found a fix. With the surface books being discontinued, i have to with a different model. Thanks
