Share desktop with Miracast (Win + K) on Surface Hub 3 with new Teams Rooms on Windows Platform
- Jan 08, 2024
Answer from Microsoft Support:
I have consulted a higher-level engineer regarding the issue, and received the Information that Miracast is not a functionality on Surface Hub 3 devices anymore.
I found a way to do it:
1. Tap on "... more"
2. Tap on "Settings"
3. Enter admin password (default is "sfb")
4. Tap on "Windows-Settings"
5. Log an as administrator; default password is "sfb"
6. Open Windows 11 Settings
7. While in "System" scroll down to "Projecting to this PC" and tap on it
8. Configure it to allow projection; you may define the settings you would like to use
9. Tap on "Launch the Connect app to project to this PC"
10. Now Casting to Surface Hub 3 is possible. The drawback however is, that you need to open the Connect app everytime you want to cast ... not very user friendly.
Another option is to cast via Teams:
1. On the Hub tap on "Share"
2. On the laptop in the teams client tap on the three dots "..." and then on "Cast"
- Max_K2020Jan 09, 2024Copper ContributorThat is what I meant with "you need to open the Connect app everytime you want to cast" (as an admin) ... I don't like MS-decision to remove the standard Miracast functionality from the default MTR Windows. But it's obviously a software topic, not an hardware issue - that's the good news. So there's room for Microsoft to bring back the standard Miracast functionality with a software update.
However, as long as you want to cast from a windows client with teams on it, the casting via Teams variant should be a valid option for now.- StaggyAug 15, 2024Copper ContributorTotally agree Max, our corporation has invested in The Surface Hub upgrade package, including two 85 inch Surface Hubs. This is a ticket that keep getting raised and I have to explain every time that it isn't supported.
MS, please get this working and make our lives easier.- gmarnold25Dec 13, 2024Copper Contributor
Do you manage these with Intune? Have you tried to enable the https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/client-management/mdm/policy-csp-wirelessdisplay#allowprojectiontopc?
The setting is available in Settings Catalog.
