SharePoint On-Premises Licensing

For On-Premises Deployment, Is SharePoint Server License and CAL charges are one time or recurring cost? Please help, I am not able to get this cleared up, and I have been looking around for a while now. I would highly appreciate any help. Thanks

    Charges are one time and for all the period your sharepoint farms are running...if at some point you need to upgrade your farms to a newer SharePoint version, you will have to discuss with Microsfot the cost added in terms of licesensing for the update
