SharePoint links undermining access permissions
I've recently been tasked with created a number of SharePoint sites for our company, each site catering for a different area of our business. In most cases, the sites will be used by small, clearly defined groups, so creating access permissions has been relatively straightforward. However, their are several sites that will contain folders and files with varying access requirements. It's taken some time to get that working, so that if those are now accessed directly through the document library, access is restricted as it ought to be. But, I have designed the 'homepage' for each site so that there are shortcuts included for some of the more frequently used folders or files, and I've noticed that if those shortcuts are used, the permissions I've assigned are totally ignored, and anyone can access all the content, at any permission level.
Have I done something wrong?
AmandaFoley100 How you have added shortcut links? From where you got these links? Are you generating any public links with anonymous access?
Instead of using such shortcut links to document/folder, use direct path of document/folder to show links on home page of site.
Follow steps given here to get direct path of document/folder:

Hello AmandaFoley100
it's not possible in SharePoint, that different ways with the same user have different permissions.
User can only see or edit elements, that they have access.
Is it possible, that do you use "sharing" links for your shortcuts? With "Sharing" you give access to the mention peoples. It's better, you use a direct link, over the SharePoint information panel, on bottom, to the right document or folder.
