Chris Stewart no, you must have at least SQL Server 2016. Remember, the minimum requirements for SharePoint 2016 is SQL Server 2014 SP1, which is why the diagram has it labeled. But for 2019, minimum required is SQL 2016.
- IMHO, you should follow the article describing minimum SW requirements and not the technical diagrams
