SharePoint 2016 MySites Content Database size

Hello,

My MySites content database keeps growing in size, what's the best way to stop it?  We don't really use MySites at all so I'm not sure why it's grown so large, it's hundreds of GBs at this point.

Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

J B To address the issue of your SharePoint 2016 MySites content database growing excessively, consider implementing a few strategies to manage its size effectively. Begin by disabling the creation of new MySites in Central Admin to prevent further expansion. Utilize PowerShell to identify and delete any unused or stale MySites, recovering valuable storage space.

Additionally, configure storage quotas on the MySite host site collection to limit the amount of content users can store in their MySites. Partition the personal storage tables and remove default MySite quotas for followers, colleagues, and memberships to avoid unnecessary storage consumption. Redirecting MySites to a stub site using alternate access mapping and site collection redirection can help control storage usage while maintaining basic functionality.

For a more comprehensive solution, consider migrating personal storage to OneDrive, leveraging its capabilities as a redirected location. Combining these options can effectively curb the continuous growth of the MySites content database while still meeting essential functionality requirements.
