Sharepoint 2010 list attachment special characters error
Hi All,
I have a customer running SharePoint 2013 who have just upgraded their Office version to 2016. Now when they try to add an attachment (word document) to a list item they get an error saying that there are invalid characters in the file name. Thing is, there isn't. We have tried bringing it right back to even having no spaces in the name without any luck. It may or may not be related to the upgrade but its only been reported since the upgrade.
Anyone have any ideas?

Hi Suzanne Hunt could you please verify CU update version of your SharePoint farm?
There is a know issue applies to: Microsoft SharePoint Foundation 2013 Service Pack 1
this blog post talk about it https://thesharepointfarm.com/2015/08/august-2015-cu-error-file-names-cant-contain-the-following-characters/ but please, if you verify the same CU version, don't use suggested workaround, just update your farm :)
Cheers,Federico
- Hi Suzanne,
First thing to check here is the compatibility between Office 2016 and SharePoint 2013 to see if there are any known issues that could be the cause of this problem. Second thing I would check is the SP 2013 is properly updated with latest cumulative updates released by Microsoft.
Hope it helps!- Suzanne HuntBrass Contributor
Thanks Juan, I'm just checking the patch level now, the office 2016 might have been a red herring as I tried later with a pdf and still got the same message.
I couldnt see any messages in the ULS logs either relating to trying to attach a file, even to acknowledge that there was an attempt.
