Migrating User Profile Metadata Fields (SPS-AboutMe)
Hello fellow SharePoints.
Has anyone had any experiencing migrating User Profile data from SharePoint 2013 to 2016? Specifically the SPS fields like about me, skills, interests, etc?
I have built a brand new 2016 farm and have UPS configured with MIM 2016. I have custom attributes populating custom user properties in the new environment.
However, i haven't figured out a way to bring over the metadata fields that users fill out on their own. I know i am supposed to db attach those, but how do i sync the metadata fields with the correct users?
Any help would be greatly appreciated:

- Upgrading the UPSA databases from 2013 to 2016 would be the route to go to preserve existing profile value data.

i agree with you Trevor, however, we used BCS connections in 2013 UPS and in 2016 we have to use MIM, which i have setup and is brning back custom attributes from AD.
What you are suggesting is that i database attach the social DB to 2016 and mount it?
if so, how do i sync it up with the User Profile.
We have no mysites.- The Profile database contains the profile data. Social is more for newsfeed, favorites, etc. You can continue to use BCS-alike functionality with MIM, but it's a bit more complex to set up.

Not sure off the top of my head, but you may find this recent webinar by @Spencer Harbar and Rencore helpful, https://rencore.com/webinars/user-profile-sync-identity-manager-sharepoint-server-2016/
