How to consolidate content from different places?
Here are my follow up questions:
- What is the best way to migrate content from classic SharePoint to an existing group SharePoint? Interestingly, there are a few users who just own a sub site not the whole site, thoughts on that as well?
- Definitely interesting in deleting the DL and adding that as an alias. Question on side note, If we want to continue to 'send on behalf of' the old DL once it is deleted and added as an alias, I guess that won't be possible. So, what is the best thing to do considering the DL is still active?
You can send on behalf from a group, do some google searches for it, shouldn't be hard to pinpoint down, but I know it's possible. Here is Microsoft support article for it: https://support.office.com/en-us/article/Allow-members-to-send-as-or-send-on-behalf-of-an-Office-365-Group-Admin-help-0ad41414-0cc6-4b97-90fb-06bec7bcf590
As for sub-sites it's really difficult since the direction for modern is to not use them. So you may have to use migration tool such as Share-gate or Metalogix etc. to move those sites, depending how much customization are there. If it's just documents, you really don't have to use a tool. But the idea is to create Groups for each site, and if you need those sites to be related you can use Hub sites to group them, but keep in mind your limited currently to 50 hubs.
