Groove Sync Client bad! - When will the new client be compatible with SharePoint!
- Aug 19, 2016
Hi Robert,
The ability to sync SharePoint Document Libraries using OneDrive client (next generation) will be in Preview during Q3, and the GA build will be during Q4.
Thanks,
Lior
Interesting. I thought the new sync client had already been released. Certainly I'm syncing SharePoint libraries to my Windows 10 PC (and have been for at least a month). I'd really like to have the same functionality on my Mac too. Is that on the roadmap.
We are now support OneDrive and SharePoint Document Library Sync with the GA client 17.3.6743.1212 - download link: http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=823059

Lior, Thank you.
I do understand the path to upgrade my 1200 users. Questions have arisen from my helpdesk around new office 365 installs. Will the Groove.exe client be removed from the c2r package available at office.com and replaced with the NGSC? If so when? Will the Groove.exe client eventually be removed from the currently installed c2r suite in a future update if customers are running the NGSC?

Microsoft
Today, Office 365 ProPlus pacakge contain both old sync (Groove.exe) and new sync (OneDrive.exe) clients. Means that you can easly remove Groove.exe if needed by using Office Deployment Tool and custom XML file. The new sync client (OneDrive.exe) only supports sync for SPO sites. So, for some customers using SharePoint on-prem, there is still a need for the old groove.exe sync client. As far as I understood, there is no intention to remove it from the package in the near future.
