Follow button in custom list item in SP2016

In SP2016 (16.0.4534 - May 2017) I figured out that Follow button is shown in items of custom lists. Clicking the button ends up with error: Sorry, we couldn't follow the document. UnsupportedItemType : Unsupported item type.

 

Is this button expected in SP2016 - it was not there in SP2013.

      Unfortunately I did not get any response. Issue is still there.

    I experienced the issue on another SP2016 farm as well. 'Follow' button shown in menu of custom list item. Clicking 'Follow' causes error: 'Sorry, we couldn't follow the document', see attached image. Afterwards, 'Follow' button in menu of custim list item is not shown any more. Probably a bug?
