Documents Mailbox

I have had a couple of users saying "Now you can send email to SMO-Documents@Domain.org and it will land in a mailbox just for the people in this site.  Visit the mailbox on the Documents (hyperlinked to our SPO Site) to see it for yourself".

Can someone tell me what this does and why only a few people have received this email?   My Executive Director of course was the first one to receive it and I didn't have an answer for him other than "let me check on that".  Any assistance you can provide would be great.

Yes, this is the site mailbox feature with SharePoint and Exchange online.

I like this feature because I can store my E-Mails directly with my customized project- / or team site.

All Peoples in the default member or owner group get access to this mailbox and it is also visible in Outlook automatically (only 10 each time)

And my users can choose which Mailbox they want to see in Outlook (Mange Website mailboxes).

I like it more than the Office Groups – because I can customize the SharePoint site and can use templates.

That sounds like the email that people get when a Site Mailbox feature is activated within a SP site. A site mailbox is a shared inbox in Exchange Online that members of a SharePoint Online site can access. It is implemented in SharePoint Online as an app. You need both Exchange Online and SharePoint Online to read, organize, reply to, or delete mail from a site mailbox in SharePoint.

This SP feature has been largely replace by the newer, more full featured, Office Groups.
