Document properties panel click and drag behaviour

A user I’m working with has found that if they try to mouse down on text fields in Properties entry side panel to highlight text then move their mouse off of the properties menu to the left and mouse up it closed the properties dialog without saving the changes. Is there any way to stop this box closing without clicking apply or close?
