Cannot associate content type with list

I have tried to post here multiple times, and it keeps getting rejected.  I am tyring to associate a list with a custom content type.  Will not let me.

  • standenman There are multiple benefits of content types in SharePoint.

One of the main benefit of content types is reusability. You can create a content type at site level and add it to multiple lists in the site where you want same column structure.

Then if you need to modify anything in the content type or add any new column in the content type, you can do it at only one place - content type at site level. You don't need to go to each list and modify the content type separately.

Content types can also have workflow and document templates (if you are creating content type for document libraries) associated with it.

You can find more details and benefits of content type at:

    1. Introduction to content types and content type publishing
    2. 6 reasons why you need to embrace SharePoint Content Types

  • standenman Are you trying to create a new list using default available templates or are you trying to add content type to existing list?

If you want to add content type to list, follow this documentation: Add a content type to a list or library

Like I said, when I go the "settings" for my list, all i get a "settings" splash screen with the chance only to choose a color and a silly icon, nothing letting me select a content type.

        standenman Follow the steps:

        1. Go inside your list
        2. From list view, click on Settings (gear) icon at the top right corner
        3. Select List settings
        4. Then you can find Advance settings on list settings page
        5. After that you can follow the steps given in Microsoft documentation (link given in my above response)

        From list view like:
