Background and layout
How do you place a background around text in Sharepoint and how do you access the text layout? It seems that it isn't appearing on my website in Sharepoint.

Deleted if you just want to highlight certain text, select the text and click the ellipses to a a highlight color or other formatting:
But if you want an entire block of color behind text then you have to do this by editing the section from the icon in the left rail and then you can add background shading and change the layout of the section:
