Anonymous read, list data, how is it crawled or returned to users via Search
I have a SharePoint 2010 Farm with a public (anonymous = read) facing site. When I search for text in list items when I am logged I, the list items with that text are returned in search results. When I perform the same search while I am not logged in, those list items are not returned in the search results. I have checked to make sure the list inherits perms from it's parent site so anonymous can read.
Does anyone have thoughts on why\how I am having this experience. Do you have a suggestion for either diagnosing the problem or fixing it? Thanks - Greg

It's likely something with your zones on the web application..
Go to Central Admin, Manage Web Applications, Pick your Web App, Click on Authentication Profiles. You might have more than one Zones.. Default, Intranet, Internet, etc. Make sure that the appropriate zones are setup for anonymous. There's a checkbox for "Enable Anonymous Access". If that's not checked, check it, then run a Full crawl.
Good luck!

Hi Jared - Thanks - I checked and all zones allow anonymous. I then checked IIS settings and anonymous was allowed on the web sites.
Anonymous isn't enabled for the iis site 'SharePoint Web Service' but that shouldn't be a problem right?
Thanks - Greg
