Cybersecurity in 2026: Is Zero Trust Enough to Defend Against AI-Powered Threats?
I have been having similar conversations in LinkedIn and even posting articles about this.
In the age of AI, Zero Trust must evolve beyond a simple access decision to a continuous "Should I trust this right now?" decision. The questions are no longer limited to user authentication and authorization:
• Should this AI agent trust this code?
• Is this data trustworthy and unaltered?
• Should this tool-to-tool or agent-to-agent interaction occur?
To make that possible, we need significantly greater traceability, observability, explanability and transparency across every layer of the technology stack.
For years, security teams have struggled with incomplete telemetry and insufficient logging from applications and tools, leading to lengthy investigations, audits, and incident response efforts.
If we expect AI systems to be transparent, explainable, and trustworthy, we must first establish those same principles in the underlying foundation. The future of Zero Trust is not just verifying identities and granting access. It is continuously validating trust across identities, systems, agents, data, and actions.
