Team Assignment Visibility in Project Server
Hi Brett, Generic resources are designed for resource forecasting - for seeing how many of a given type or skills you need on forecasted or future tasks in Project Online or Server. What you are looking for is called a 'team resource', which is essentially a way to group a set of people, then assign the 'team' to a task. From there a team member can 'pick up' the task, assign it to themselves, update progress, and send it to the PM for review and approval via the 'My Tasks' part of the tool.
There's some background on this here: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/team-assignment-pool-resource-field-8717ff45-640d-46c3-b16d-697b48a0757d
You can create these types of resource groupings and assign them in Project Pro to tasks in your schedules. We have many clients that use these, esp in high volume task or agile/hybrid environments, where you often don't know who will perform a task, just that someone from a specific team needs to do and report progress on it.
Hope this helps.
Thank you for your response on this. To be more specific, I am looking for the Permission that allows Team Members with "My Task" category permission to view a project schedule simply by being added to that project’s team via Build Team, or by virtue of having the Team Assignment resource to which they belong added to the project via Build Team. This would allow those Team Members to view the schedule, self-assign tasks (or at least be aware of those tasks) and provide status updates, WITHOUT requiring the PM (as the Project Owner) to assign each individual task in the schedule to an individual or resource (some schedules have thousands of tasks).
The PM builds the schedule and assigns generic resources to derive the baseline Work and costs. From there, we'd like the PMs to be able to simply add people or Team resources to the project via Build Team, and those team members can take the lead on specific assignment and updating of tasks. The generic resource would remain loaded in the schedule for tracking of Remaining Work and Cost, and Team Members would be able to see and update tasks in the schedule.
I have made changes to the default Team Member group and My Task Category permissions, but have not found out how to enable this schedule visibility for Team Members.
