Sharing Resource Issue
- Nov 03, 2021
Dale_HowardMVP Thanks for your reply & help, how you have described is exactly how I have always done it and how I have been attempting to do it now. but it just wouldn't allow me the option to select the file to share from.
Since posting I have tried to understand if it is the machine / licence I have (which is professional so should be an issue) which may have been different to the one I had in my previous company.
I noticed the files were stored in one drive (in the cloud) I changed this to make the files available always on my device and amazingly I now have the option to select the sharer file. so looks like its some issue opening and running files directly from OneDrive.
Many Thanks again for your help.
Shane.
Not sure what is going on with your projects, but I will try to help you. Please try the following steps:
1. Open the MPP file that contains your resources. Be sure to open the file Read/Write and not Read-Only.
2. Open the first project with which you want to share the resources.
3. In the project you opened in step #2, click the Resource tab to display the Resource ribbon.
3. In the Assignments section of the Resource ribbon, click the Resource Pool pick list button and select the Share Resources item on the list.'
4. In the Share Resources dialog, select the Use Resources item and then in the From pick list, make sure that the MPP file containing the resources is selected.
5. In the Share Resources dialog, leave the Pool Take Precedence option selected, and then click the OK button.
6. Save the first sharing project and close it.
7. Open each successive project and repeat the preceding steps.
8. After linking all of your projects, save the MPP file containing the shared resources and then close the file.
Please let us know if this helps.

I did not realize you had the files stored in OneDrive. When you store MPP files in either OneDrive or SharePoint, this restricts some of the behavior of Microsoft Project. For example, you would not be able to create, save, and use a master project stored in OneDrive or SharePoint. You are wise to save your MPP files on either a network share or on your laptop so that you can have the full functionality of Microsoft Project. Hope this helps.
