POL 2,000 project site limit...
- Feb 10, 2024
Hi James_Price ,
There is a limit on 2,000 sub sites per site collection, this is a SharePoint Online site collection limit.
Once the PWA Site collection has 2,000 sub sites, if you want to create additional project sites, this is when you need to create a new SharePoint site collection (Not a PWA site collection) to host the additional project sites. Details can be seen here: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/ProjectOnline/tune-project-online-performance?redirectSourcePath=%252fen-us%252farticle%252fTune-Project-Online-performance-12ba0ebd-c616-42e5-b9b6-cad570e8409c#project-site-configuration
Worth noting is the lack of support for user permission sync with project sites hosted outside of the PWA site collection: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/ProjectOnline/tune-project-online-performance?redirectSourcePath=%252fen-us%252farticle%252fTune-Project-Online-performance-12ba0ebd-c616-42e5-b9b6-cad570e8409c#sync-user-permissionsHope that helps

Hello RodFromm ,
The PWA Site collection can have 30,000 projects but only 2,000 of those projects could have a project site if you only used the PWA site collection to host project sites.

Paul_Mather thanks for the information as could never find any information online.

Hi RodFromm and Paul_Mather, FYI in the past I seen an instance where there were a total of 8,000 projects with about 3,500 sites in the pwa site and 4,500 in other subsites (long story). POL still seemed to function fine. But I was always worried it would slow to a standstill at any moment.

James_Price That doesn't surprise me. As I posted I have gotten conflicting answers from Microsoft engineers on the 2,000 site limit.
