People Picker in Project Detail Pages - Not Working for Already Created Projects

Hi,

I have a non-mandatory field (say, "Expert") in PDP. When I create a new project, I can select the "Expert" using People Picker. When I try to open an existing project (to assign/reassign an "Expert") the People Picker feature does not work. Custom scripting is already activated. Any insight from users, as to what configuration changes should be made, would be much appreciated.

    I have no idea why your are experiencing this problem.  Are the BA and SME fields custom enterprise Project fields WITH a lookup table of names?  I have a number of fields of this type, and when I open an existing project for editing in PWA, in the PDP I can see the ... (pick list) button displayed to the right of the field, so I can select a new value easily.  Let me know and I will try to help you.

      Dale, both these fields (BA and SME) are enterprise custom fields and do not have any lookup dependency (as they are supposed to be picked from Active Directory).

    This is very odd behavior.  Are you SURE you are checking out the project in PWA before you attempt to edit the Expert field?  If this field is available in Microsoft Project, you should be able to edit it there by checking out the enterprise project, clicking Project > Project Information, and then editing the field in the Project Information dialog.  Just a couple of thoughts.  Hope this helps.

      Thanks a lot, Dale, for responding to my question.

      I agree, it indeed is very odd behavior.

      To clarify my position, I am attaching relevant screen grabs.

      The first part displays when I am creating a new project, the People Picker (PP) works fine; when I partially enter my name, it suggests my name. I save the project. The system is correctly using Create Project screen.

      In the second part, when I edit that saved record, both PP fields do not display any suggestions: if I modify already filled SME field or use unused BA field, I don’t see any suggestions. Whatever I enter, is not validated against Active Directory in the Project Details screen.

      Hi Dale. Thanks a lot for responding to my message. 

      Yes, it indeed is an odd behavior. In my project both BA and SME fields are properly set up and I am editing the saved project in PWA.  I am providing screen shots of two tasks (a) creating a project where People Picker is active and I can choose my name. The system uses Create Project screen. (b) When I edit the same project, now the People Picker does not get initiated in the Project Details screen. Here I tried entering my name in BA field and I was not provided any choices..
