MS Project to SharePoint Online (Task list) sync (have to manually sync each and every time)

Sync MS Project with SharePoint Task List

I already have a project plan in MS Project and want to make it available in SharePoint, which i did, i selected it to sync with SharePoint however i have to sync it each and every time i close/open MS project using the App. Why have the sync there when its actually not working as intended? Having to re-sync manually each and every time is really horrible user experience and i dont want to open the project via browser using the app.

I have the file already in the SharePoint library and if i open it using the MS project app, i just want it to be able to Sync. If i have done the sync, it should be able to sync every time automatically.

To sync MS Project using App with SharePoint Task Web Part. To do that:

  1. From MS Project, click File > Save As
  2. On the left panel, choose Sync with SharePoint
  3. On the panel on the right, fill out all of the fields/drop-downs. In the first drop-down, make sure to select “Existing Site” (since you are syncing to an existing site in SharePoint and not creating a new one)
  4. In the Site Address field, paste the URL of the SharePoint Site. It has to be a complete address, but just of the project site, not the task list
  5. Once you paste the URL, click on Verify Site. This checks if the site exists
  6. Once you verified site, all the available task web parts on that site will appear in the last drop-down. Choose the specific task list you will be syncing to. In most cases, there will be just one task list on a site
  7. Click Save

Steps mentioned above are the steps i have to take each and every time .... which is not ideal.

Hope this reaches the MS Project dev team and that they fix this issue.

I also experience the issue mentioned above and will be following this thread for a response. Thanks! theking021 for bringing this forward.

To my understanding, there might be a movement towards Project Operations on Dynamics 365 to replace Project Online. Is there any truth or supporting announcements regarding this possibility?
