How do I copy tasks in a Project Kanban?
- Jul 24, 2024Eric --
OK, you are using Project for the Web and NOT Microsoft Project. Here is what you can do. Open your project and apply the Grid view, then insert the Bucket column in the Grid view using the + Add Column button. Drag the Bucket column to the right of the Name column. Select the tasks you want to copy, then right-click on the selected tasks and choose the Copy Task item on the shortcut menu. This will copy the selected tasks to your Clipboard. At the bottom of the task list, click the + Add New Task line, which will give you a blank line. Press Control + V to paste the new tasks. Edit the name of each task, as needed, and then specify the correct Bucket value for each pasted task. When you return to the Board view, you will see your duplicated tasks in the correct Buckets. Hope this helps.
I'm attempting to edit a Kanban someone else created and shared with me. Microsoft® Project® Online Desktop Client MSO (Version 2405 Build 16.0.17628.20006) 64-bit
You say you want to create a template and then by, "copy and edit", I assume you want to create multiple files from that template. Is the existing file already a template file (i.e. XXX.mpt)? If so, then open it, make the necessary changes and then Save As to a new file name.
If it is not already a template, make it into one via Save As. Just be sure to check the path so the template is where you want it. As I recall, by default templates are saved in the templates folder.
Hope this helps.

I'm attempting to copy a task from a kanban and paste it approximately 30 times so I can keep the same checklist on each task and only have to make minor edits to each of these new tasks rather than create each of the 30 tasks and the same checklist from scratch 30 times. The information on each task will be 95% the same.

Well, I am now totally confused. In your initial response to John, you stated you are using "Microsoft® Project® Online Desktop Client MSO (Version 2405 Build 16.0.17628.20006) 64-bit", which would mean you are using the Microsoft Project desktop application. But in the screenshot you shared above, you are clearly using Project for the Web. So exactly WHICH tool are you using? Let us know and we will try to help you.- EricWSikorski870Jul 24, 2024Copper ContributorThe web

I see you are working with more than just the desktop client. Unfortunately I only have the stand alone desktop version of Project so I do not have the Kanban functionality and therefore I'm not the best person to adequately address your question. Hopefully one of my colleagues, who does have full Project Online experience, will jump in with suggestions.
