Formula in predefined columns like predecessor in MS Project

Sorry but that doesn't make any sense. What do you mean, "machines which have different predecessor periods"? What are you defining as a "predecessor period"? Are you talking about availability of a machine (work type) resource? Perhaps an example or a screen shot would help us understand what you are trying to do.
